Belarus inflation may accelerate to 9% in May-June 2021 - EDB analysis

The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) reckons that inflation in Belarus may accelerate up to 9 percent in May-June 2021 influenced by the increase in food and fuel prices on the global market and also by difficulties in the export-import chains because of the coronavirus pandemic. This was stated in a commentary on the bank’s official Telegram channel. </p> <p> </p> <p> “With oil prices remaining near $65-70 per barrel, the EDB assumes a further increase in domestic fuel prices, which will also have a negative impact on inflation. As a result, in May-June the annual increase in consumer prices may reach about 9%,” the EDB said in its commentary. </p> <p> </p> <p> Going forward, the EDB expects weakening of the pro-inflationary pressures on global food prices and the recovery of export-import supply chains.
