Belarus’ industrial output down 3.9% in Jan-May 2020 to Br43.893bn

Belarus’ industrial output decreased 3.9% on the year in January-May 2020 to 43.893 billion Belarusian rubles (Br), or U.S. $18.471 billion at the official rate of the National Bank, the National Statistics Committee (Belstat) said in a statement. </p> <p> </p> <p> Production of coke and oil products reduced by 28.5% year on year in Jan-May 2020 to Br4.325 billion ($1.82bn). Output of chemical products was down 12.7% to Br3.641bn ($1.532bn); food products, including beverages and tobacco goods – up 3.8% year on year to Br12.121 billion ($5.101 billion). </p> <p> </p> <p> Output of metallurgical industries decreased by 0.9% to Br2.837 billion ($1.194bn), production of vehicles and equipment grew by 4.5% to Br1.861 billion ($783.2m). </p> <p> </p> <p> Output of plastic and rubber goods, other non-metal mineral products decreased by 2.3% in Jan-May 2020 to Br3.02 billion ($1.271bn). </p> <p> </p> <p> Output of electronic and optical equipment in Belarus reduced by 0.6% yr on yr in Jan-May 2020 to Br0.637 billion ($268.1m), electrical equipment – down 7.7% to Br1.065 billion ($448.2m). </p> <p> </p> <p> Production of machines and equipment (which do not belong to other statistical categories) stood at Br2.828 billion ($1.19bn) in Jan-May 2020, down 15.1% year on year. </p> <p> </p> <p> As of June 1, 2020, industrial inventories stood at Br5.736 billion ($2.414 billion), or 81.4% of the average monthly industrial output (79.1% as of May 1, 2020, and 65.9% as of June 1, 2019). </p> <p> </p> <p> Industries’ return on sales stood at 8.9% in Jan-Apr 2020 to compare with 8.5% in Jan-Apr 2019.
