Belarus increases Russian gas import in Jan-Mar 2021 by 12.7% to 5.831bn cubic metres

Belarus’ import of Russian natural gas grew 12.7% year on year in Jan-Mar 2021 to 5.831 billion cubic metres, reads the official statistical report. </p> <p> </p> <p> In monetary terms, Belarus’ import of Russian gas grew 14.4% year on year in Jan-Mar 2021 to $769.435m. </p> <p> </p> <p> The average price of Russian gas imported by Belarus in Jan-Mar 2021 rose by 1.5% year on year to $131.946 per 1,000 cubic metres. </p> <p> </p> <p> In 2020, Belarus reduced the import of Russian natural gas by 7.4% year on year to 18.765 billion cubic meters. In money terms, Belarus reduced the import of Russian gas in 2020 by 7% year on year to $2.453 billion. The average price of Russian gas imported by Belarus in 2020 rose by 0.4% compared with 2019 to $130.731 per 1,000 cubic meters. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, Belarus annually imports around 20 billion cubic meters of gas from the Russian Federation. The price for 2020 agreed on in February 2020 stands at $127 per 1,000 cubic meters. The gas price for 2021 was set at $128.5 per 1,000 cubic metres. </p> <p> </p> <p> The Belarusian Ministry of Energy has estimated that the launch of the Belarusian NPP (Astravyets, Grodno Oblast) will reduce gas imports from Russia by 4.5 bcm per year.
