Belarus’ Health Ministry bans import of some Nivea products
<p> MINSK, Apr 13 - PrimePress. The Health Ministry of Belarus has resorted to ‘a temporary sanitary measure’ by imposing a temporary ban on the import and circulation of some brands of perfumes and cosmetics under the Nivea trademark. The corresponding resolution was signed by Deputy Minister - Chief State Sanitary Inspector of Belarus Alexander Tarasenko on April 6, said the Health Ministry’ press service. </p> <p> </p> <p> The ban was inspired by a number of violations, including sales of products without documents certifying the quality and safety, failure to comply with their expiry date and the lack of production control of the sold perfumes and cosmetics. </p> <p> </p> <p> Also, the Health Ministry has established non-compliance with the technical regulations of the Customs Union "On safety of perfumes and cosmetics" in terms of labelling for certain items of Nivea brand perfumes and cosmetics. “In particular, the labelling does not contain information about the name and location of the organization authorized by the manufacturer to accept claims from consumers, or the name of the product does not correspond to its ingredient composition, which does not allow to fully protect consumers' rights and get reliable information about the purchased product,” the press service reported. </p> <p> </p> <p> According to the Health Ministry, in total, the sanitary and epidemiological service of Belarus has suspended (banned) the sale of nearly 3 thousand units of perfumes and cosmetics from various manufacturers. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, on January 18, 2021 the International Ice Hockey Federation deprived Belarus of the right to host the 2021 IIHF World Championship after the German brand of personal care products Nivea and the Czech car maker Skoda announced their refusal to sponsor the championship in the event it took place in Belarus. Nivea has been sponsoring ice hockey tournaments since 2007 and Skoda has been the general sponsor of ice hockey world championships since 1993. March 11, sales of the popular model Skoda Rapid have been suspended in Belarus on the order of the State Standardization Committee. </p> <p> </p> <p> The expediency of holding international competitions in Belarus was questioned after the presidential election of August 9, 2020. According to the Central Election Commission, Alexander Lukashenko won the election with 80.1% of the vote. This was followed by four months of mass protests by citizens in the country, who did not recognise the results. In September 2020, the UN reported 450 cases of torture and ill-treatment of people detained at protests. </p> <p> </p> <p> Presidential Lukashenko’s ordinance #128 of 30 March 2021 introduces a ban on imports of goods and services from the countries, which imposed sanctions on Belarusian individuals and entities. The Belarusian government is tasked to draw up the list of products to be banned. End </p>
