Belarus’ govt concerned over growing number of loss-making enterprises – Golovchenko

The Belarusian government is concerned over the growing number of loss-making organizations, Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko said on November 10, 2020 at the session of the Council of Ministers held to assess national economic performance in January-September 2020, the government’s press office reports. </p> <p> </p> <p> According to Golovchenko, Belarus’ gross domestic product has been gradually recovering since June 2020 and remained at 98.7% year on year over the past two months. </p> <p> </p> <p> “According to the updated information, October saw positive industrial output dynamics (up 0.6%). The economy is also driven by agriculture, which showed a 5.5% added value increase, the construction industry (up 4%), and the IT sector (up 8.2%). These industries have been less affected by the pandemic. The growth dynamics should be maintained until the end of 2020,” he said. </p> <p> </p> <p> According to Golovchenko, the recent decline in the exports of oil and oil products and potash fertilizers was caused by objective factors in the world markets. The export of trucks, primarily BelAZ vehicles, tractors, truck tractors and passenger cars is also falling. </p> <p> </p> <p> “Three out of the seven most important government and the National Bank’s performance targets have been achieved: the foreign trade surplus, real incomes of the population and foreign direct investment. The real monetary incomes increased by 3.6%, which is higher than planned; real wages increased by 8% (by almost 14% in the public sector), and by 22% in healthcare,” Golovchenko said. </p> <p> </p> <p> “Stocks of finished goods must be reduced by Br1 billion ($388 million) by the end of 2020. This is being as scheduled, but organizations of the Ministry of Industry, Bellegprom, the Vitebsk Oblast and Minsk city lag behind in this respect. The costs of production and sales increased in organizations of the Ministry of Industry, Mogilev and Gomel Oblasts and Minsk.
