Belarus’ govt agencies still disagree on 2021-2025 electric transport development program – Golovchenko

Government agencies of Belarus still have disagreements on the draft comprehensive program for electric transport development in 2021-2025, Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko said at the session of the Council of Ministers Presidium held on January 19, 2021, the government’s press office reports. </p> <p> </p> <p> According to Golovchenko, the disagreements primarily concern the position of oblast executive committees on the urban electric transport procurement under the program. The Ministry of Housing and Utilities has questions regarding the recycling of waste batteries. </p> <p> </p> <p> “System solutions in the electric transport development are required. The program should be really comprehensive, comprising scientific research and development, production stimulating measures, and purchase and operation of electric transport. This means that it must be cross-cutting and cover virtually all areas one way or another related to electric transport,” said Golovchenko. </p> <p> </p> <p> The Ministry of Transport and Communications of Belarus says it is planned to increase the proportion of electric passenger transport in the urban traffic to 30% by 2025, first in Minsk, regional centers and in the localities with over 100,000 residents. Also, to the extent economically practicable, the Belarusian Railway will continue the electrification of the main high-density traffic lines. The Transport Ministry says there are some technical and economic aspects that constrain the electric transport development in Belarus, in particular the size of electricity tariffs and the cost of electric transport, the availability of charging stations and recycling infrastructure.
