Belarus, Gazprom start negotiations on gas supply terms for 2021

Belarus and Gazprom PJSC resolved the issue of Belarus’ debt for natural gas on November 11, 2020 and began negotiations on the terms of gas supplies in 2021, Gazprom says. </p> <p> </p> <p> Gazprom Chairman Alexei Miller and Energy Minister of Belarus Viktor Karankevich met in St. Petersburg on November 11, 2020. They agreed that the issue of Belarus’ debt for natural gas had been finally resolved and started negotiations on the gas supply terms in 2021, reads the report. </p> <p> </p> <p> Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko said on November 2, 2020 on Belarus-1 TV channel that Belarus had no debt for supplied natural gas to Russia. All requested payments for consumed gas (around $330 million) had been made. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, Gazprom Transgaz Belarus OJSC was paid for supplied natural gas on October 16, 2020. However, according to the company, in violation of the gas supply contracts, the acts of delivery and acceptance and the accounts reconciliation statements for February-September 2020 were not signed by the gas supplying organizations of Beltopgaz, and neither were the acts of delivery and acceptance for March-September and the accounts reconciliation statements for February-September 2020 by Naftan. The payment period was not indicated in the payment documents. The penalty for the overdue payment for gas had not been paid. </p> <p> </p> <p> During the telephone talks on November 4, 2020, Presidents of Belarus and Russia Alexander Lukashenko and Vladimir Putin agreed to promptly resolve the issue and begin negotiations on oil and gas supplies to Belarus. </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarus imports about 20 billion cubic meters of gas from Russia per year at the price of $127 per 1,000 cubic meters as agreed in February 2020. The statistically higher price than that indicated in the contract ($130 against $127). End </p>
