Belarus’ foreign debt up 0.01% in Feb 2021 to $19.973bn
<p> MINSK, Mar 31 – PrimePress. Belarus’ state foreign debt increased by 0.01% month on month in Feb 2021 to U.S. $19.973 billion as of Mar 1, 2021 by the International Monetary Fund’s Special Data Dissemination Standards, reads a report posted on the website of the Finance Ministry. </p> <p> </p> <p> The government’s long-term debt accounted for 91.7% of the total foreign debt in Feb 2021 (91.67% in Jan 2021), the government’s short-term debt for 0% (0%), and foreign loans to companies’ against the government’s security for 8.3% (8.33%). </p> <p> </p> <p> The Finance Ministry says Belarus took out external public loans in the amount of $129.2 million in Jan-Feb 2021 and transferred $386.4 million to redeem external liabilities. This includes $114m loaned from the Russian government ($188.4m repaid in Jan-Feb 2021) and $15.2m borrowed from the International Reconstruction and Development Bank (IBRD) and the European Reconstruction and Development Bank (EBRD) ($11.8m repaid to IBRD). Also in Jan-Feb 2021, Belarus paid $186.2m in debt settlement to Chinese banks. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, Belarus’ external public debt grew by 9.56% yoy in 2020 to $20,271bn as of Jan 1, 2021, according to IMF SDDS.
