Belarus FinMin: Minsk gets 2nd Russian loan tranche of $500m

Belarus has received the second tranche amounting to U.S. $500 million of a state loan from Russia, the Finance Ministry of Belarus said in a statement on Wednesday. </p> <p> </p> <p> “In accordance with an agreement between the government of Republic of Belarus and the government of the Russian Federation… the amount of second tranche of state financial loan equivalent to $500 million arrived to the Finance Ministry’s account on June 2, 2021,” the ministry said. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, the Belarus-Russia intergovernmental agreement on granting two tranches worth $500 million each of the Russian state loan to Minsk was signed on December 21, 2020 in Moscow. The Belarusian Finance received the first $500m tranche of the loan on December 30. </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarus expected to receive the second one in the first half of 2021. Presidents Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko of Russia and Belarus discussed this issue during the talks in Sochi on May 29, 2021, and agreed that Russia would transfer $500 million of the second tranche of the interstate loan to Belarus in June 2021.
