Belarus eyeing Asian market, plans bond offering on Russian market - minister

Belarus plans to place bonds on the Russian market, Finance Minister Yury Seliverstov told reporters on 18 May, the government press service said. </p> <p> </p> <p> “We had a go at the Western market last year, so there were no such plans for this year in principle. Now we have plans to enter the Russian market. As for Asia, it is an interesting but somewhat specific market, so we are still thinking how to establish cooperation,” Seliverstov said. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, the Belarusian government will go for bond placement in Russia in 2021-2023 as public debt securities worth up to RUB100 billion ($1.351 billion at the exchange rate of the Central Bank of Russia). </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarus has been working on various options for borrowing from China in renminbi for several years, including bond placement.
