Belarus expected to have Br4bn public budget deficit in 2021, or 2.6% of GDP - FinMin

Belarus’ republican budget deficit in 2021 is expected at Br4 billion ($1.584 billion at the rate of National Bank of Belarus), or 2.6% of the gross domestic product (GDP). </p> <p> </p> <p> First Deputy Minister of Finance Dmitry Kiyko made a statement to this effect at an extended meeting of the Standing Committee on Budget and Finance of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus on December 17. </p> <p> </p> <p> The Ministry of Finance of Belarus has estimated at budget revenues are expected at Br23.3 billion ($9.228 billion; $1 - $2.5249), with expenditures at Br27.3 billion ($10.812 billion). </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported on Dec 9 with reference to Deputy Finance Minister of Belarus Elena Pechen, Belarus’ national budget deficit may reach Br2.6 billion ($1.029 billion at the rate of the National Bank of Belarus) in 2020, or nearly 2% of gross domestic product (GDP). The ministry also forecasts a budget deficit of around 3% of GDP in 2021, she said. </p> <p> </p> <p> The national budget deficit in 2020 was planned at Br995.1 million ($394.114m), around 1% of GDP. In 2019, Belarus’ national budget surplus stood at Br3.229bn ($1.278bn), 2.5% of GDP. End </p>
