Belarus’ electricity export to Lithuania down 40.1% in 2020 to 497m kWh

Belarus reduced the export of electric energy to Lithuania in 2020 by 40.1% year on year to 497 million kWh, according to the official statistics. </p> <p> </p> <p> In monetary terms, Belarus reduced the electricity export to Lithuania in 2020 by 39.4% on the year to $26.407 million. </p> <p> </p> <p> The average price of electric energy exported to Lithuania in 2020 rose by 3.7% year on year to $53.132 per 1,000 kWh. </p> <p> </p> <p> In 2020, Belarus also supplied electric energy to Ukraine and small amounts to Latvia and Estonia. Last year, Belarus exported a total of 653.2 million kWh, down 41.8% against 2019 worth $34.299 million, down 41.8% year on year. The average price of electricity exported in 2020 increased by 0.7% from 2019 to $52,510 per 1,000 kWh. </p> <p> </p> <p> Lithuania stopped electricity trade with Belarus on November 3, 2020 after the launch of the Belarusian NPP. However, the Baltic grids still physically transmit energy, and Latvia began trading electricity with Russia on November 5, which Vilnius considers a violation of the Baltic trilateral agreement. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator sent in late November 2020 to Latvian and Estonian operators a revised draft methodology that will hinder trade in Belarusian electricity to be generated by the Belarusian nuclear power plant. Lithuania released the official statement on the refusal to approve the methodology for electricity trade between the Baltic States and third countries after the launch of the Belarusian NPP, since it does not guarantee the complete boycott of Belarusian electricity.
