Belarus’ electricity consumption expected to grow by 15% to 44bn kWh by late 2025 - Energy Ministry
<p> MINSK, Dec 3 - PrimePress. Belarus’ annual electricity consumption is expected to increase by 1.15 times by the end of 2025 compared to the 2019 level to 44 billion kWh. Minister of Energy Viktor Karankevich made public a forecast to this effect at a meeting with the staff of Belenergosetproekt on December 2, Ministry of Energy’s press service said in a statement. </p> <p> </p> <p> "While in 2019 the volume of electricity consumption in the country as a whole amounted to 38 billion kWh, by the end of 2025 we plan to reach about 44 billion kWh, and by 2030 - 47 billion kWh," said Karankevich. </p> <p> </p> <p> In his words, growth like that can be achieved as a result of implementing a cross-sectoral set of measures to increase electricity consumption until 2025. In addition, for this purpose, a draft programme in under development to increase electricity consumption for heating and hot water by private households. </p> <p> </p> <p> The Minister also identified the construction of multi-storeyed electrified houses and the development of electric transport as promising areas for growth in electricity consumption. </p> <p> </p> <p> "Today there are more than 1,200 electric vehicles in Belarus. The number of charging stations is growing. In 2019 they used about 3.8 million kWh of electricity. In the first ten months of 2020 this figure reached 6 million kWh," said Karankevich. End </p>
