Belarus’ Economy Ministry expects 4-4.5% average annual GDP growth in 2021-2025

The Economy Ministry of Belarus expects 4-4.5% average annual gross domestic product (GDP) growth in 2021-2025, Economy Minister Alexander Chervyakov said on February 14, 2021 on Belarus-1 TV channel. </p> <p> </p> <p> “Average global GDP growth rate is about 3-5%. As concerns our economy, we plan 4-4.5% growth per year in the next five years. A growth program is being drawn up to this end,” BelTA state newswire quotes Chervyakov as saying. </p> <p> </p> <p> The minister said that the government would prioritize regional development in 2021-2025, in particular, setting up of new enterprises “with highly productive jobs.” “This is the first factor to reduce migration from the regions to Minsk and other big cities, or emigration,” he said. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, Belarus’ socioeconomic development program for 2016-2020 forecasted 12-15% GDP growth, which, in fact was around 3.5%.
