Belarus considers American Bakken crude suitable in terms of quality – Naftan

Supplies of American Bakken crude oil to Naftan OJSC (Novopolotsk, Vitebsk Oblast) may be continued, since its quality parameters are not inferior to the Russian Urals grade, and surpasses it in some parameters, the refinery reports after a preliminary analysis. </p> <p> </p> <p> “This has been the third grade of oil over the past six months, which we have not previously refined. There was Norwegian and then Arab oil. This time, we received shale crude. We will continue diversification of supplies. Negotiations are in progress on different grades. The refining economics is highly important. We will sel ect the grade that suits us best,” says Naftan CEO Alexander Demidov. </p> <p> </p> <p> As reported, the first batch of American oil arrived at Naftan by rail on June 11 fr om Klaipeda (Lithuania), wh ere 77,000 tonnes of oil were delivered by a sea tanker from the United States. It had been the 12th tanker with oil fr om sources alternative to Russia in 2020. According to LG Cargo forwarding company (Lithuania), a total of 22-23 trains with 120 tanks each (approximately 7,000 tonnes) will be routed to Novopolotsk per day. The Bakken crude supply is part of a deal with United States Trading assisted by Getka and their Polish partner UNIMOT. </p> <p> </p> <p> Refining of new grades of oil, among other things, prepares the oil refining industry for working in new conditions of the completion of the Russian tax maneuver. </p> <p> </p> <p> Launched in 1963, Naftan is Belarus’ largest refinery and one of the largest in Europe. In 2008, Naftan incorporated another Belarusian refinery Polimir. 99.83% of the company belongs to the state. Naftan is capable of producing about 400,000 tonnes of diesel fuel per year. Naftan produces euro-4 and euro-5 diesel fuel, petrol and lubricants, which are exported to the EU, the Middle East and the United States. End </p>
