Belarus collects Br47m in Google tax revenues in 2020

Belarus’ state budget received Br47 million ($17.83m) in proceeds from the value-added tax on e-services (unofficially referred to as the ‘Google tax’ paid by foreign companies providing e-services to Belarusian customers) in 2018, Belarus’ Tax Minister Sergey Nalivaiko told a press-conference. </p> <p> </p> <p> Electronic services bought by Belarusian customers from foreign companies are subject to VAT in Belarus starting Jan 1, 2018. Foreign companies selling software products and e-services to customers in Belarus are supposed to pay e-VAT starting 2018. Belarus’ authorities classify e-services as software products and software updates, mobile apps, music files, e-books, movies, e-games, access to data banks, web advertising, distribution of domain names and site hosting services. </p> <p> </p> <p> At the moment, 87 foreign companies providing e-services to Belarusian customers have been registered with Belarus’ tax authorities to officially pay VAT in Belarus. </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarus’ Google tax revenues have been growing by more than 40% year on year , and the trend is likely to continue, said Nalivaiko.
