Belarus’ cargo transportation volume down 5.8% in Jan-Mar 2021 to 84.571m tonnes

Belarus’ volume of cargo transportation by all types of transport decreased in Jan-Mar 2021 by 5.8% year on year to 84.571 million tonnes, Belarus’ National Statistics Committee (Belstat) said in a statistical report. </p> <p> </p> <p> Transportation by rail in Jan-Mar 2021 totalled 29.331 million tonnes, up 2.8% year on year. The transit freight traffic amounted to 6.1 million tonnes, down 8.5%. Crude oil and oil products, construction cargoes, chemical and mineral fertilizers, and timber cargoes prevailed in transportation by rail. </p> <p> </p> <p> Transportation of goods by road decreased in Jan-Mar 2021 by 17% to 28.342 million tonnes; through pipelines – up 0.9% to 26.883 million tonnes; by air – up 60% to 10,800 tonnes. </p> <p> </p> <p> The export of transportation services in freight terms in Jan-Feb 2021 amounted to $534.6 million, up 11.4% year on year; import – $281.4 billion, up 27.9%.
