Belarus’ cargo transportation volume down 3.5% in Jan 2021 to 26.147m tonnes

Belarus’ volume of cargo transportation by all types of transport decreased in January 2021 by 3.5% year on year to 26.147 million tonnes, Belarus’ National Statistics Committee (Belstat) said in a statistical report. </p> <p> </p> <p> Transportation by rail in Jan 2021 totaled 8.994 million tonnes, up 4.5% year on year. The transit freight traffic amounted to 1.9 million tonnes, down 15.3%. Crude oil and oil products, construction cargoes, chemical and mineral fertilizers, and timber cargoes prevailed in transportation by rail. </p> <p> </p> <p> Transportation of goods by road decreased in Jan 2021 by 21.6% to 7.632 million tonnes; through pipelines – up 9.5% to 9.516 million tonnes; by air – up 90% to 3,200 tonnes. </p> <p> </p> <p> The export of transportation services in freight terms in 2020 amounted to $3.215 billion, down 1.4% year on year; import – $1.564 billion, up 0.9%.
