Belarus’ capital investments down 8.1% in Jan-Sep 2021 to Br20.794bn

Belarus reduced capital investments in Jan-Sep 2021 by 8.1% year on year to Br20.794 billion ($8.498 billion at the rate of the National Bank of Belarus), the National Statistics Committee of Belarus (Belstat) said in a report. </p> <p> </p> <p> As much as Br7.878 billion ($3.22 billion) was spent on buying machines, equipment, and vehicles in Jan-Sep 2021, down 3.8% year on year. </p> <p> </p> <p> Investments in construction and assembly operations totalled Br10.672 million ($4.36 billion) in Jan-Sep 2021, down 11.7% year on year. </p> <p> </p> <p> As much as 3.071m square metres of new dwelling houses was commissioned in Jan-Sep 2021, up 11.6% year on year, including 950,600 square metres of homes (up 19.1%) built at the expense of soft loans from state-owned banks. </p> <p> </p> <p> In 2020, Belarus reduced capital investments by 6.8% year on year to Br28.72 billion ($11.523bn at the rate of the National Bank of Belarus). Spending on machinery, equipment and vehicles decreased by 16.4% to Br10.44 billion ($4.189bn), investments in construction and installation operations – up 1.4% to Br15.32 billion ($6.147bn), housing – up 2.3% to 4.156 million square metres.
