Belarus’ capital investments down 8.1% in Jan-Aug 2021 to Br17.827bn

Belarus reduced capital investments in Jan-Aug 2021 by 8.1% year on year to Br17.827 billion ($7.153 billion at the rate of the National Bank of Belarus), the National Statistics Committee of Belarus (Belstat) said in a report. </p> <p> </p> <p> As much as Br6.781 billion ($2.72 billion) was spent on buying machines, equipment, and vehicles in Jan-Aug 2021, down 4.1% year on year. </p> <p> </p> <p> Investments in construction and assembly operations totalled Br9.062 million ($3.636 billion) in Jan-Aug 2021, down 11.7% year on year. </p> <p> </p> <p> As much as 2.52m square metres of new dwelling houses was commissioned in Jan-Aug 2021, up 18.1% year on year, including 763,300 square metres of homes (up 27.6%) built at the expense of soft loans from state-owned banks. </p> <p> </p> <p> In 2020, Belarus reduced capital investments by 6.8% year on year to Br28.72 billion ($11.523bn at the rate of the National Bank of Belarus). Spending on machinery, equipment and vehicles decreased by 16.4% to Br10.44 billion ($4.189bn), investments in construction and installation operations – up 1.4% to Br15.32 billion ($6.147bn), housing – up 2.3% to 4.156 million square metres.
