Belarus’ capital investments down 5.3% in Jan 2021 to Br1.59bn

Belarus reduced capital investments in January 2021 by 5.3% year on year to Br1.59 billion ($616.3 million at the rate of the National Bank of Belarus), the National Statistics Committee of Belarus (Belstat) said in a report. </p> <p> </p> <p> As much as Br488.9 million ($189.5 million) was spent on buying machines, equipment, and vehicles in Jan 2021, down 12.1% year on year. </p> <p> </p> <p> Investments in construction and assembly operations totalled Br923 million ($357.8 million) in Jan 2021, down 1.3% year on year. </p> <p> </p> <p> As much as 443,200 square metres of new dwelling houses was commissioned in Jan 2021, up 37.8% year on year, including 145,100 square metres of homes (up 38.5%) built at the expense of soft loans from state-owned banks. </p> <p> </p> <p> In 2020, Belarus reduced capital investments by 6.8% year on year to Br28.716 billion ($11.13bn at the rate of the National Bank of Belarus). Spending on machinery, equipment and vehicles decreased by 16.4% to Br10.436 billion ($4.05bn), investments in construction and installation operations – up 1.4% to Br15.319 billion ($5.94bn), housing – up 2.3% to 4.156 million square meters.
