Belarus’ capital investments down 2% in Jan-Sep 2020 to Br20.459bn

Belarus reduced capital investments by 2% year on year in January-September 2020 to Br20.459 billion ($7.942 billion at the rate of the National Bank of Belarus), the National Statistics Committee of Belarus (Belstat) said in a report. </p> <p> </p> <p> As much as Br7.4 billion ($2.873bn) was spent on buying machines, equipment, and vehicles in Jan-Sep 2020, down 10% year on year. </p> <p> </p> <p> Investments in construction and assembly operations totalled Br10.934 billion ($4.245 billion) in Jan-Sep 2020, up 4.8% year on year. </p> <p> </p> <p> As much as 2.752 million square metres of new dwelling houses was commissioned in Jan-Sep 2020, up 5.7% year on year, including 798,500 square metres of homes (up 15.8%) built at the expense of soft loans from state-owned banks. </p> <p> </p> <p> In 2019, Belarus increased capital investments by 5.7% year on year to Br27.846 billion ($10.81bn at the rate of the National Bank of Belarus). Spending on machinery, equipment and vehicles increased 11.8% to Br11.087 billion ($4.304bn), investments in construction and installation operations – 3.3% to Br13.938 billion ($5.411bn), housing – 2.4% to 4.062 million square meters.
