Belarus capable of substituting $4bn worth import of automotive components – Lukashenko

Belarus has industrial capacities for domestic production of auto components to substitute their import to the tune of $4 billion, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said in his annual address to the nation and the parliament on August 4. </p> <p> </p> <p> “The potential is immense. We can set up small companies to produce components for a total of 4 billion dollars. Small and medium enterprises across the globe dream about joining efforts or cooperating with industrial giants. Everyone is struggling for contracts and mass production opportunities. Therefore, one should not complain about the small home market capacity. Localization of components at such plants as BelGee [Belarusian-Chinese Geely car assembly JV], MTZ and BELAZ alone will produce a huge effect on business,” Lukashenko said. </p> <p> </p> <p> In his opinion, “there are potential clusters in the wood processing industry, particularly production of furniture and paper, the light industry, and production of innovative building materials and pharmaceuticals.
