Belarus calculates possible damages from strikes, Belaruskali intends to stop shortly

Belarus has calculated the possible damage from strikes for each enterprise, Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko said in a video posted on Facebook by the Council of Ministers’ press office. </p> <p> </p> <p> Earlier, several Belarusian enterprises reported workers on strike and announced and a shutdown. The Prime Minister thus said that all real sector enterprises were operating normally, and that there were “groups of protest-minded employees.” </p> <p> </p> <p> “We have calculated losses per each enterprise that would be incurred in case of a shutdown. The workers have been informed of the figures so that they understand what that can lead to. And, of course, this would definitely affect the wages, because everyone gets what has been earned,” Golovchenko said. </p> <p> </p> <p> According to Belorusskiye Novosti online periodical and Svoboda Radio, employees Belaruskali OJSC continue an indefinite strike. They demand that political prisoners and participants in nonviolent rallies are released, Lukashenko steps down immediately, and a transparent election and vote count monitored by international organizations and independent observers is held. Also, they want an independent investigation into the disproportionate use of force, bullying and torture against civilians by security agencies, and the abolition of the contract system as a tool of pressure on workers. </p> <p> </p> <p> Strike committees have been formed at Belaruskali. The workers are not mining ore, preparing for a complete accident-free shutdown, Belorusskie Novosti and Svoboda Radio reported on August 18, 2020. End </p>
