Belarus’ broad money supply up 2.3% in Sep 2021 to Br50.803bn

Belarus’ broad money supply expanded by 2.3% month on month in Sep 2021 to Br50.803 billion ($20.515bn) as of 1 Oct 2021, Belarus’ monetary authorities said in an online report. </p> <p> </p> <p> Deposits in foreign exchange increased by 1.3% in Sep 2021 to Br26.089 billion ($10.535bn) as of Oct 1, 2021. The proportion of deposits in foreign exchange was at 51.35% as of Oct 1, 2021 against 51.88% as of Sep 1, 2021 and 55.86% as of Jan 1, 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> Of the total money supply, cash in circulation (M0 aggregate) grew by 0.96% month on month in Sep 2021 to Br4.523 billion ($1.826bn) as of Oct 1, 2021. The proportion of cash in circulation made up 8.9% as of Oct 1, 2021, to compare with 9.02% as of Sep 1, 2021 and 8.12% as of Jan 1, 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> M1 aggregate, which includes cash and current Belarusian ruble deposits with banks, increased by 2.1% month on month in Sep 2021 to Br11.79 billion ($4.76bn) as of Oct 1, 2021. M1 aggregate accounted for 23.21% of broad money supply as of Oct 1, 2021 (21.85% as of Sep 1, 2021; 20.24% as of Jan 1, 2021). </p> <p> </p> <p> Ruble money supply (M2* aggregate), which includes M1 and fixed-period ruble securities outside bank circulation, increased by 3.9% month on month in Sep 2021 to Br23.329 billion ($9.421bn). Ruble money supply accounted for 45.92% of broad money supply as of Oct 1, 2021, to compare with 45.21% as of Sep 1, 2021 (40.98% as of Jan 1, 2021). </p> <p> </p> <p> According to the main monetary policy guidelines for 2021, the average broad money supply (December 2021 on December 2020) is expected to increase by 7-10%. At the same time, the average ruble money supply could grow by 11-14% and the ruble monetary base by 10-13%. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, in 2020, Belarus' broad money supply increased by 4.72%, cash in circulation - by 11.21% and the monetary aggregate M1 - by 0.08%. M1 aggregate accounted for 23.21% of broad money supply as of Oct 1, 2021 (21.85% as of Sep 1, 2021; 20.24% as of Jan 1, 2021).
Ruble money supply (M2* aggregate), which includes M1 and fixed-period ruble securities outside bank circulation, increased by 3.9% month on month in Sep 2021 to Br23.329 billion ($9.421bn). Ruble money supply accounted for 45.92% of broad money supply as of Oct 1, 2021, to compare with 45.21% as of Sep 1, 2021 (40.98% as of Jan 1, 2021).
