Belarus’ broad money supply down 2.7% in Oct 2021 to Br49.441bn

Belarus’ broad money supply reduced by 2.7% month on month in Oct 2021 to Br49.441 billion ($20.24bn) as of 1 Nov 2021, Belarus’ monetary authorities said in an online report. </p> <p> </p> <p> Deposits in foreign exchange decreased by 2.4% in Oct 2021 to Br25.466 billion ($10.425bn) as of 1 Nov, 2021. The proportion of deposits in foreign exchange was at 51.51% as of Nov 1, 2021 against 51.35% as of Oct 1, 2021 and 55.86% as of Jan 1, 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> Of the total money supply, cash in circulation (M0 aggregate) grew by 0.9% month on month in Oct 2021 to Br4.564 billion ($1.868bn) as of Nov 1, 2021. The proportion of cash in circulation made up 9.23% as of Nov 1, 2021, to compare with 8.9% as of Oct 1, 2021 and 8.12% as of Jan 1, 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> M1 aggregate, which includes cash and current Belarusian ruble deposits with banks, decreased by 1.6% month on month in Oct 2021 to Br10.905 billion ($4.464bn) as of Nov 1, 2021. M1 aggregate accounted for 22.06% of broad money supply as of Nov 1, 2021 (23.21% as of Oct 1, 2021; 20.24% as of Jan 1, 2021). </p> <p> </p> <p> Ruble money supply (M2* aggregate), which includes M1 and fixed-period ruble securities outside bank circulation, decreased by 3.1% month on month in Oct 2021 to Br22.617 billion ($9.259bn). Ruble money supply accounted for 45.75% of broad money supply as of Nov 1, 2021, to compare with 45.92% as of Oct 1, 2021 (40.98% as of Jan 1, 2021). </p> <p> </p> <p> According to the main monetary policy guidelines for 2021, the average broad money supply (December 2021 on December 2020) is expected to increase by 7-10%. At the same time, the average ruble money supply could grow by 11-14% and the ruble monetary base by 10-13%. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, in 2020, Belarus' broad money supply increased by 4.72%, cash in circulation - by 11.21% and the monetary aggregate M1 - by 0.08%. M1 aggregate accounted for 22.06% of broad money supply as of Nov 1, 2021 (23.21% as of Oct 1, 2021; 20.24% as of Jan 1, 2021).
Ruble money supply (M2* aggregate), which includes M1 and fixed-period ruble securities outside bank circulation, decreased by 3.1% month on month in Oct 2021 to Br22.617 billion ($9.259bn). Ruble money supply accounted for 45.75% of broad money supply as of Nov 1, 2021, to compare with 45.92% as of Oct 1, 2021 (40.98% as of Jan 1, 2021).
