Belarus banks’ profits up 80% in Jan-Apr 2021 to Br502.2m

Belarusian banks’ total balance sheet profit amounted to Br502.2 million as of Apr 1, 2021, or U.S. $198.28 million at the official rate of the central bank, up 80% on the year, the National Bank of Belarus said in a statistical report. </p> <p> </p> <p> Banks’ regulatory capital stood at Br13.078 billion ($5.16bn) as of May 1, 2021, up 6.9% month on month and 17.1% year on year. </p> <p> </p> <p> Capital adequacy ratio stood at 18.3% as of May 1, 2021, to compare with 17.2% as of Jan 1, 2021 and 16.6% as of May 1, 2020. </p> <p> </p> <p> Return on equity of Belarusian commercial banks was at 10.3% as of May 1, 2021, to compare with 8.9% as of Jan 1, 2021 (10.6% as of May 1, 2020). </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarusian banks’ assets stood at Br91.513 billion ($35.74bn) as of May 1, 2021, down 0.06% year to date (up 4.5% month on year). </p> <p> </p> <p> Return on assets stood at 1.3% as of May 1, 2021 (1.1% as of Jan 1, 2021; 1.4% as of May 1, 2020). </p> <p> </p> <p> As of May 1, 2021, the total value of non-performing loans (NPL) amounted to Br3.585 billion ($1.42bn), up 3.7% year to date and 2% year on year. </p> <p> </p> <p> Provisions for assets exposed to credit risk reduced by 2.9% year to date in Jan-May 2021 to Br4.618 billion ($1.8bn) as of May 1, 2021, up 10% year on year.
