Belarus banks’ profits up 58% in Jan-Aug 2021 to Br910m

Belarusian banks’ total balance sheet profit amounted to Br910 million as of Sep 1, 2021, or U.S. $362 million at the official rate of the central bank, up 58% on the year, the National Bank of Belarus said in a statistical report. </p> <p> </p> <p> Banks’ regulatory capital stood at Br13.55 billion ($5.39bn) as of Sep 1, 2021, up 10.8% month on month and 18.1% year on year. </p> <p> </p> <p> Capital adequacy ratio stood at 18.6% as of Sep 1, 2021, to compare with 17.2% as of Jan 1, 2021 and 15.8% as of Sep 1, 2020. </p> <p> </p> <p> Return on equity of Belarusian commercial banks was at 10.6% as of Sep 1, 2021, to compare with 8.9% as of Jan 1, 2021 (8.8% as of Sep 1, 2020). </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarusian banks’ assets stood at Br91.338 billion ($36.34bn) as of Sep 1, 2021, up 0.84% year to date (up 0.2% month on year). </p> <p> </p> <p> Return on assets stood at 1.4% as of Sep 1, 2021 (1.1% as of Jan 1, 2021; 1.2% as of Sep 1, 2020). </p> <p> </p> <p> As of Sep 1, 2021, the total value of non-performing loans (NPL) amounted to Br4.03 billion ($1.6bn), up 16.6% year to date and 14.4% year on year. </p> <p> </p> <p> Provisions for assets exposed to credit risk reduced by 3.8% year to date in Jan-Sep 2021 to Br4.935 billion ($1.96bn) as of Sep 1, 2021, up 5.9% year on year.
