Belarus banks’ profits up 47.6% in Jan-Sep 2021 to Br1.048bn

Belarusian banks’ total balance sheet profit amounted to Br1.048bn as of Oct 1, 2021, or U.S. $429.9 million at the official rate of the central bank, up 47.6% on the year, the National Bank of Belarus said in a statistical report. </p> <p> </p> <p> Banks’ regulatory capital stood at Br13.66 billion ($5.6bn) as of Oct 1, 2021, up 11.7% month on month and 17.9% year on year. </p> <p> </p> <p> Capital adequacy ratio stood at 18.4% as of Oct 1, 2021, to compare with 17.2% as of Jan 1, 2021 and 16.4% as of Oct 1, 2020. </p> <p> </p> <p> Return on equity of Belarusian commercial banks was at 10.5% as of Oct 1, 2021, to compare with 8.9% as of Jan 1, 2021 (8.8% as of Oct 1, 2020). </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarusian banks’ assets stood at Br92.294 billion ($37.86bn) as of Oct 1, 2021, up 1.9% year to date (up 3.1% month on year). </p> <p> </p> <p> Return on assets stood at 1.4% as of Oct 1, 2021 (1.1% as of Jan 1, 2021; 1.1% as of Oct 1, 2020). </p> <p> </p> <p> As of Oct 1, 2021, the total value of non-performing loans (NPL) amounted to Br3.965 billion ($1.63bn), up 14.7% year to date and 15.2% year on year. </p> <p> </p> <p> Provisions for assets exposed to credit risk grew by 5% year to date in Jan-Oct 2021 to Br4.996 billion ($2.05bn) as of Oct 1, 2021, up 8% year on year.
