Belarus banks’ profits up 29.4% in Jan 2021 to Br100.9m

Belarusian banks’ total balance sheet profit amounted to 100.9 million Belarusian rubles (Br) as of Feb 1, 2021, or U.S. $38.72 million at the official rate of the central bank, up 29.4% on the year, the National Bank of Belarus said in a statistical report. </p> <p> </p> <p> Banks’ regulatory capital stood at Br13.081 billion ($5bn) as of Feb 1, 2021, up 6.9% month on month and 16.5% year on year. </p> <p> </p> <p> Capital adequacy ratio stood at 18.5% as of Feb 1, 2021, to compare with 17.2% as of Jan 1, 2021 and 17.6% as of Feb 1, 2020. </p> <p> </p> <p> Return on equity of Belarusian commercial banks was at 8.9% as of Feb 1, 2021, to compare with 8.9% as of Jan 1, 2021 (11% as of Feb 1, 2020). </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarusian banks’ assets stood at Br92.678 billion ($35.57bn) as of Feb 1, 2021, up 18.3% year on year (up 2.3% month on month). </p> <p> </p> <p> Return on assets stood at 1.2% as of Feb 1, 2021 (1.1% as of Jan 1, 2021; 1.5% as of Feb 1, 2020). </p> <p> </p> <p> As of Feb 1, 2021, the total value of non-performing loans (NPL) amounted to Br3.576 billion ($1.37bn), up 3.4% month on month and 21.18% year on year. </p> <p> </p> <p> Provisions for assets exposed to credit risk reduced by 3.5% month on month in Jan 2021 to Br4.59 billion ($1.76bn) as of Feb 1, 2021, down 20.3% year on year.
