Belarus banks’ net foreign assets down 1.4% to minus $3.585bn in Jan-Oct 2021

Net foreign assets of Belarusian commercial banks and non-banking credit-and-finance institutions amounted to minus $3.585 billion as of Nov 1, 2021, down 1.4% year to date, the National Bank of Belarus (NBB) said in a statistical report. </p> <p> </p> <p> Net foreign assets of commercial banks and non-banking credit-and-finance institutions increased by 28.1% in Jan-Oct 2021 to $1.941 billion, while foreign liabilities of banks grew by 7.3% to $5.527 billion as of Nov 1, 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> As of Nov 1, 2021 deposits accounted for $1.183 billion of Belarusian commercial banks and non-banking credit-and-finance institutions’ net foreign assets (up 37.1% year to date), credits – $96.756m (up 38.2%), foreign exchange – $507.72m (up 5.7%), securities (except shares) – $48.71m (up 1.5%), other assets – $104.681m (up 2 times). </p> <p> </p> <p> Credits accounted for $4.932bn of Belarusian commercial banks and non-banking credit-and-finance institutions’ external liabilities as of Nov 1, 2021 (up 8.8% year to date), deposits – $557.25m (down 4.7%), securities (except shares) – $0.00 compared with $0.00 as of Jan 1, 2021, other liabilities - $36.,903m (up 5.1%). </p> <p> </p> <p> In 2020, net foreign assets of Belarusian commercial banks and non-banking credit-and-finance institutions reduced by 14.8% to minus $3.637 billion as of January 1, 2021.
