Belarus’ banks grant 6,100 clients credit holidays in March-May, 2020 – ABB

Belarusian banks granted 6,100 clients credit holidays, totaling around Br2 billion ($841.6 million at the rate of the National Bank of Belarus) in March-May 2020, says the Association of Belarusian Banks (ABB). </p> <p> </p> <p> Credit holidays were granted to 2,800 legal entities and 3,300 individuals. Banks also introduced a deferment of repayment of the principal debts and interest payments; suspension of interest accrual; change of loan repayment terms; non-collection of interest for late repayment of debt; refinancing loans for a longer period; conversion of credit debt from foreign currency into Belarusian rubles (for exporting enterprises). ASB Belarusbank satisfied about 90% of requests filed by small and medium businesses for restructuring and installment loans. </p> <p> </p> <p> Banks also reduce tariffs, provide free service packages, and implement preferential projects with delivery services, transport companies and other services. BNB-Bank OJSC serves enterprises engaged in tourism services and passenger transportation for free, BSB Bank has developed a free package of services “We Are Together!” for catering enterprises, and MTBank CJSC offers new customers payment and cash services with a 90% discount. </p> <p> </p> <p> “Credit and financial organizations are ready to increase support, expecting increased activity of the clients, who experience problems with loan repayments. To minimize the denial of credit holidays, bank request documents that confirm the difficult financial situation,” says Anna Kovaleva, Acting Chairperson of the Association of Belarusian Banks.
