Belarus appoints acceptance commission for BelNPP first unit
<p> MINSK, Mar 18 – PrimePress. The government has appointed an acceptance commission for the start-up complex of the first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The decision was formalized by Council of Ministers’ Resolution #148 as of 16 March 2021 that was published on the National Legal Internet Portal on 18 March. </p> <p> </p> <p> Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Nazarov took charge of the acceptance commission. Belenergo Director General Pavel Drozd and Deputy Energy Minister Mikhail Mikhadyuk were appointed his deputies. </p> <p> </p> <p> The commission also included First Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Standardization Dmitry Bartashevich, Belenergo Deputy Director General Sergei Bobovich; Head of the Road Police Department of Grodno Oblast Aleksandr Voiteshko; Grodno Oblast Deputy Governor Vladimir Deshko; Deputy Emergencies Minister Anatoly Dolgolevets; First Deputy Finance Minister Dmitry Kiyko; First Deputy Architecture and Construction Minister Igor Kostyukov and others. </p> <p> </p> <p> In line with the document, the chairman of the acceptance commission has the right to involve, if necessary, specialists from central government agencies and other state-run organizations subordinate to the Council of Ministers, as well as other organizations. </p> <p> </p> <p> The Energy Ministry provides organizational and technical support for the acceptance commission. </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarus’ first nuclear power plant in Ostrovets (a town in the Grodno Oblast also referred to as Astravyets) will have two units with a combined capacity of up to 2,400 megawatts. The AES-2006 Russian standard design of (generation 3+) was chosen for its construction. Rosatom’s division Atomstroyexport acts as the general contractor for the NPP construction. The Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant RUE is the project customer and the future operator of the NPP. The ceremony of the official launch of the NPP took place in early November 2020. According to presidential decree No.447 of November 30, 2020, the first power unit of the NPP will be put into commercial operation in 2021, the second power unit – in the first half of 2022.
