Belarus’ annual inflation speeds up to 10.5% in Oct 2021 - NBB

Annual inflation in Belarus accelerated to 10.5% in Oct 2021, while in month-on-month terms consumer prices grew by 0.9%, reads the monthly inflation review released by the National Bank of Belarus (NBB). </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, in Sep 2021 inflation in Belarus grew by 1.3% month on month, and 10.2% year on year. </p> <p> </p> <p> According to the NBB review, core inflation stood at 9.6% yoy in Oct 2021. Prior to that, core inflation was 9.9% for two consecutive months (September 2021 on September 2020 and August 2021 on August 2020). </p> <p> </p> <p> The increase in administered prices and tariffs stood at 10.7% in Oct 2021; 10.4% yoy in Sep 2021 and 9.7% yoy in Aug 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> Seasonal prices (fruit and vegetables) increased significantly by 24.8% year on year in Oct 2021 to compare with 14.2% yoy in Sep 2021; 6.7% yoy in Aug 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> The year-on-year aggregate trend inflation rate was at 8.4% yoy in Oct 2021; 8.6% yoy in Sep 2021; 8.4% yoy in Aug 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> The maximum and minimum annual free price and tariff increases in Oct 2021 were, in particular: minus 1.4% for edible salt; minus 1% for one-room flat rent from individuals; minus 0.8% for flour; minus 0.7% for coffee; +0.4% for pasta; +15.6% for veterinary services; +16% for vinegar; +17.2% for oil and fats; +19.4% for carpets and rugs; +24.5% for mayonnaise. </p> <p> </p> <p> The maximum and minimum increases in regulated prices and tariffs in October 2021 in annual terms were, in particular, minus 3.6% for passenger car insurance; +0.8% for firewood and peat, +4.2% for communication services; +5.7% for spirits; +13.1% for tobacco products; +16.5% for fuel; +18.9% for drugs and +20.8% for home protection services.
