Belarus’ annual inflation at 5.2% in Jul 2020

Annual inflation in Belarus remained at 5.2% in July 2020, the National Bank of Belarus (NBB) reports on its official website. </p> <p> </p> <p> Consumer prices rose in July 2020 by 5.2% year on year (5.2% yoy in June 2020, 4.9% yoy in May 2020). </p> <p> </p> <p> Core inflation increased by 3.8%, 3.7% and 3.9% on the year in July, June and May 2020, respectively. </p> <p> </p> <p> Regulated prices and tariffs slowed down to 6.3%, 6.7% and 6.7% on the year in July, June and May 2020, respectively. </p> <p> </p> <p> The year-on-year increase in seasonal prices made up 21.9% in Jul, 21.5% in Jun and 11.5% in May 2020. </p> <p> </p> <p> The year-on-year aggregate trend inflation rate was at 3.3% in Jul, 3.1% in Jun and 3.4% in May 2020. </p> <p> </p> <p> In annual terms of the maximum and minimum growth rates of free prices in Jul 2020, edible salt showed a 4.3% decrease; fabrics and yarns – down 1.3%; meat and meat products – down 1.2%; coffee – down 0.8%; hotel services – down 0.2%; chicken eggs – up 9.4%; bicycles and motorcycles – up 12.4%; cereals and legumes – up 13.5%; passenger transport services – up 13.7%. </p> <p> </p> <p> In annual terms of the maximum and minimum growth rates of regulated prices and tariffs in Jun 2020, telecommunication services showed a 2.1% increase; medicines – up 3.3%; preschool education – up 10%; tobacco products – up 12%; secondary vocational education – 14.6%; tertiary education – up 18.6%; personal transport insurance – up 22.3%. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, inflation in Belarus was up 0.2% in Jul 2020 and 3.6% in Jan-Jun 2020. The official inflation forecast for 2020 is 5%. The National bank of Belarus does not rule out, though, that inflation may reach 6% in 2020. End </p>
