Belarus’ agriculture ministry counts on increasing trade with Russia

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food counts on increased food trade with Russia, which will be facilitated by the approved Belarus-Russia agro-industrial integration programme, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of Belarus Alla Lomakina said in an interview with Sovetskaya Belorussiya - Belarus Segodnya newspaper published on Tuesday. </p> <p> </p> <p> In her words, the convergence of the legislation of Belarus and Russia in the field of the agro-industrial complex will increase the volume of mutual trade and remove administrative barriers. </p> <p> </p> <p> Russia is currently the main consumer of Belarusian food exports – In Jan-Jun 2021 Russia accounted for 71% of Belarusian agricultural exports. In monetary terms, Belarusian agricultural and food exports to Russia totalled $2.1 billion in January-June 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarus’ imports of food and agricultural products from Russia amounted to $0.78 billion, or 39% of total food imports in January-June 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> Last week, the governments of Russia and Belarus approved 28 programs for the development of the Union State and the main provisions of the agreement on the creation of the union, including documents related to the agro-industrial complex.
