MINSK, Feb 25 - PrimePress. The government of Belarus has approved the state energy saving program for 2021-2025, which will require 4.213 billion Belarusian rubles ($1.618 billion at the exchange rate of the National Bank of Belarus) in funding, including Br808.4 million ($310.493 million) in 2021, as per government resolution No.103 of February 24, 2021.
Strategically, the program aims to reduce Belarus’ dependence on imported energy commodities through the maximum possible involvement of domestic fuels and energy, including renewable; restrain growth of gross consumption of fuel and energy and bring the energy intensity of Belarus’ GDP to the global average purchasing power.
The program consists of two subprograms: energy efficiency improvement and the use of local fuels and energy, including renewable.
It is assumed that by 2026, the energy intensity of GDP will be reduced by 7% against 2020 with 21.5% GDP growth. The amount of saved energy may reach 2.5-3 million tonnes in fuel equivalent. The share of local fuels and energy in gross consumption will be at least 16.1%, and the share of renewable energy will make up 7-8%.
The program also provides for the application of modern energy efficient technologies, energy saving equipment, devices and materials, higher efficiency of energy facilities, construction, reconstruction and modernization of energy sources based on local fuels and energy, including renewable.
In 2021-2025, Belarus plans to commission 491 MW capacities operating on wood fuel and 129.5 MW on renewable energy, including 15 MW – biogas, 29.8 MW – wind power, 10 MW - photovoltaic, 29.1 MW – hydropower, 5.6 MW – mini- thermal power plants on wood fuel and biomass, 40 MW – on solid municipal waste.
The decree comes into force upon its official publication and covers the relations arising since January 1, 2021. End (Br2.6036/$1)
