A1 to compensate subscription fees for inaccessible Internet services
<p> MINSK, Aug 12 - PrimePress. A1, Belarusian provider of telecom, ICT and content services, will compensate the subscription fee to mobile communication and home Internet and television subscribers (individuals and legal entities) for three days from August 9 to August 11, 2020 inclusive, after problems arose with accessing some services via mobile devices and landlines for reasons beyond the company’s control, the company said in a statement. </p> <p> </p> <p> Mobile communication subscribers (individuals and legal entities) that use Internet traffic packages will be provided compensation in the amount of 30% and 50% of the daily subscription fee per each day when services were unavailable, if the package volume is 0.5 to 9 and over 10 GB, respectively. If the package only includes Internet traffic, the daily subscription fee will be compensated in full. There will be no adjustments to subscription fees on tariff plans that do not include data transfer services, as well as with Internet traffic below 500 MB. </p> <p> </p> <p> VOKA home Internet and TV subscribers (individuals and legal entities) will be provided 50% and 100% compensation of the daily subscription fee (with and without VOKA package, respectively). The company also compensates legal entities–clients of the A1 data center who use the Internet to ensure access and operability of corporate resources–100% of the daily subscription fee per each day when services were unavailable. </p> <p> </p> <p> Adjustments of subscription fees will be made automatically in accordance with the described algorithm–by crediting to the balance for individuals starting from August 16; in the billing for August for legal entities–of which subscribers will be duly notified. </p> <p> </p> <p> Established in 1998, A1 unitary enterprise is now fully owned by A1 Telekom Austria Group. The mobile operator A1 started revenue service of its 3G network based on the HSPA/HSPA+ technology in March 2010. The operator made 4G mobile internet services available to customers in March 2019. Until Aug 1, 2019 the company had been operating under the velcom brand. </p> <p> </p> <p> On the day of the presidential election, August 9, and later, on August 10 and 11, Belarusian telecom service users experienced problems with Internet access. According to observers, the authorities are limiting the bandwidth to restrict access to information and to lower the degree of protests against the official election results.
