A1 offers subscribers compensation for mobile Internet shutdowns in Nov 2020 in Minsk

A1, Belarusian provider of telecom, ICT and content services, offers its subscribers compensation for mobile Internet bandwidth reductions in Minsk in November 2020, the company says. </p> <p> </p> <p> Mobile Internet restrictions in Minsk on November 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29, 2020 ordered by authorized state bodies and for reasons beyond company’s control caused the service to work incorrectly for 29 hours 20 minutes in total. In this regard, the A1 management made a decision to provide compensation to mobile subscribers (individuals and legal entities). </p> <p> </p> <p> Mobile subscribers (individuals) will receive compensation for 1 Gbyte of free Internet traffic/2 Gbyte of Internet traffic or free 50 minutes of calls to all networks, or free 100 text messages for 30 days/5 Gbyte of traffic, or 100 minutes of calls to all networks, or 250 free text messages/10 Gbyte of traffic, or 250 minutes of calls, or 300 free text messages, depending on the amount of the monthly fee, up to Br10/Br10-15/Br15-30/over Br30, respectively ($3.9/$3.9-5.8/$5.8-11.6/over $11.6 at the rate of the National Bank of Belarus, respectively). </p> <p> </p> <p> The Business Class and Share Wi-Fi Pro package subscribers (individuals) and participants in the Bonuses for New Subscribers promo action of the No Limit package, Bonuses for New Subscribers promo action of the No Limit package and Get Back Your Number to A1 Network will be reimbursed 100% of the fee for one day. </p> <p> </p> <p> Mobile subscribers (legal entities) and individuals serviced under the individual corporate program will be provided with compensation in the packages that include 500 MB of traffic and over in the amount of 100% of the daily subscription fee for one day of lack of service; mobile Internet subscribers that use tariffs/paid Internet packages that only include Internet traffic will be reimbursed 100% of the daily subscription fee/package cost for one day of lack of service. </p> <p> </p> <p> Adjustments of subscription fees to legal entities will be made automatically and included in the bill for November 2020. </p> <p> </p> <p> Belarusian telecom operators previously reported a reduction in the bandwidth of the data transmission in Minsk by order of government agencies on August 26, 23 and 31, September 6, 13, 20 and 27, October 4, 11, 18 and 25, and November 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29, 2020. The operators offered their subscribers bonuses in compensation for the shutdowns. </p> <p> </p> <p> In September, the European Telecommunications Network Operators’ Association (ETNO) released a statement, in which it attributed the Internet blockages in Belarus to the monopoly on the external channel, and cited A1 Telekom Austria Group as saying that the liberalization of approaches to the use of the external communication channel by operators was one of the priority points for Belarus’ accession to the World Trade Organization. </p> <p> </p> <p> Established in 1998, A1 unitary enterprise is now fully owned by A1 Telekom Austria Group. The mobile operator A1 started revenue service of its 3G network based on the HSPA/HSPA+ technology in March 2010. The operator made 4G mobile internet services available to customers in March 2019.
