A1, MTS operators provide telecom solution for third line of Minsk Metro

A1, Belarusian provider of telecom, ICT and content services, and its peer Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) completed mobile communication testing at the stations of Minsk Metro’s Third Line. </p> <p> </p> <p> By the official launch of the new metro line, passengers will be able to use communication on the platforms, in underground passages, as well as in the tunnels between stations "Kovalskaya Sloboda", "Vokzalnaya", "Frantishka Bogushevich Square" and "Jubilee Square". </p> <p> </p> <p> According to A1, after the launch of the third line, access to mobile Internet will also be provided on the platforms of these stations and in the underground passages leading to them. </p> <p> </p> <p> The launch of the first stations of Minsk Metro’s third line is scheduled for early November 2020. </p> <p> </p> <p> A1 (velcom until August 2019) was established in 1998.The company began commercial operations on April 16, 1999. At present, A1 Telekom Austria Group owns 100% of the company. The operator began commercial operation of the 3G network (HSPA and HSPA+) in March 2010, and has been providing 4G services since March 2019. The number of subscribers was reported at 4.882 million in the third quarter of 2020. </p> <p> </p> <p> MTS was registered in Belarus on April 4, 2002. The operator is a joint venture between Russia’s largest mobile operator Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) and Belarus’ Beltelecom operator. The companies hold respective stakes of 49% and 51% in the joint venture. </p> <p> </p> <p> MTS Belarus started providing GSM 900/1800 standard services on June 27, 2002; launched 3G revenue service in May 2010 and 4G revenue service in December 2015. Since 2017 the operator has been developing its own NB-IoT network in Belarus. The operator’s subscriber base totals 5.7 million. End </p>
