6th All-Belarusian People’s Assembly scheduled for February 11-12, 2020 – decree

The 6th All-Belarus People’s Assembly is scheduled for February 11-12, 2021, as per presidential decree No.492 of December 28, 2020. </p> <p> </p> <p> According to the decree, the total number of delegates and invitees to the Assembly will reach 2,700, no more than 310 representatives of each oblast and no more than 370 of Minsk city. According to the presidential press office, the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly will set socio-economic development goals for 2021-2025 and consider ways to ensure economic growth. </p> <p> </p> <p> The list of the invited persons is to be made by the national organizing committee. It will include heads of state bodies and organizations, representatives of local councils, public associations, mass media, the foreign diplomatic corps, Belarusian diasporas, and international and foreign organizations operating in the republic, reads the statement. </p> <p> </p> <p> The All-Belarusian People’s Assembly is a regular event held once in five years. Attending the event are representatives of the authorities, enterprises a, scientists and artists from all regions of the country. The delegates usually praise the authorities for successes of the previous five years, and determine the main areas and targets of national development for the next five years. The first Assembly was held in 1996. Lukashenko’s first constitutional reform was approved, and his powers expanded greatly. Assemblies are usually held shortly before presidential elections, except 2020. In December 2020, Lukashenko proposed making the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly a constitutional body, electing its delegates for five years, and making the parliament leadership, ministers, and heads of local administrations accountable to them.
