Presidential Envoy Ivan Tertel meets with Naftan workers, trying to prevent strike

Chairman of the State Control Committee of Belarus, presidential envoy in Vitebsk Oblast Ivan Tertel and Chairman of Belneftekhim state petrochemical concern Andrei Rybakov met with workers of Naftan OJSC (Novopolotsk, Vitebsk Oblast) on August 17, attempting to prevent a strike at the enterprise, Belneftekhim reports. </p> <p> </p> <p> The workers stated concern over security of the city and the country and violations reportedly committed during the past presidential election. The parties agreed that the Naftan trade union will work out requirements, maintaining the normal operation of the company. </p> <p> </p> <p> Launched in 1963, Naftan is Belarus’ largest refinery and one of the largest in Europe. In 2008, Naftan incorporated another Belarusian refinery Polimir. 99.83% of the company belongs to the state. Naftan is capable of producing about 400,000 tonnes of diesel fuel per year. Naftan produces euro-4 and euro-5 diesel fuel, petrol and lubricants, which are exported to the EU, the Middle East and the United States. End </p>
