MAZ switches to Belarusian-Chinese MAZ Weichai, Fast MAZ engines and gearboxes
MINSK, Jul 16 - PrimePress. The Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ) OJSC–Managing Company of Belavtomaz Holding, will start the manufacture of cars with engines and gear-boxes produced by Belarusian-Chinese JVs MAZ-Weichai and Fast-MAZ (residents of the Great Stone Park), MAZ press office reports.<br> <br> This concerns dump trucks, tractors, high sided trucks, logging trucks and special-purpose vehicles. The company will switch to the new engines and gear-boxes step by step to reduce the costs of MAZ vehicles, reads the statement.<br> <br> MAZ-Weichai has been operating since autumn 2019. It produces 190-460 hp engines. The production capacity is 10,000 engines per year (one-shift operation). <br> <br> Built jointly with Shaanxi Fast Gear, Fast-MAZ began production in late 2020. It produces six-, nine- and 12-speed manual gearboxes for Belarusian trucks. The production capacity is 10,000 gearboxes.<br> <br> Belavtomaz plans to export around 12,000 vehicles worth over $400 million in 2021. In January-June 2021, the company’s exports totaled $180 million.<br> <br> The Minsk Automobile Plant began operations in 1947; incorporated in 2008; 100% of its shares are owned by the state. The company produces 500 models and modifications of high-sided and all-wheel drive vehicles, dump trucks, chassis, tractors, timber trucks, trailers and semi-trailers, cranes, special equipment, and about 15 bus models.
