Belstat no longer posts updated statistics on exports of oil products, potash fertilizers subject to sanctions
MINSK, Jul 14 - PrimePress. The National Statistics Committee of Belarus (Belstat) stopped publishing statistics (previously updated on a monthly basis on the Belstat website in the commodity exports/imports section) on the exports of oil products and potash fertilizers under FEACN (Foreign Economic Activity Commodity Nomenclature) codes. The latest data covered January-April 2021.<br> <br> In particular, Section V ‘Mineral Products’ and Section VI ‘Products of Chemical and Related Industries’ have been removed from the Belstat website. The sections contained information about the export and import of oil and oil products and mineral fertilizers, which are now subject to sectoral or individual sanctions imposed by the European Union (EU) and the United States.<br> <br> Also, Section VII ‘Plastics and Plastic Goods, Rubber Resin, Rubber and Rubber Goods’; Section XVI ‘Machinery, Equipment and Mechanisms, Electrical Equipment and Parts, Sound Recording and Sound Reproducing Equipment, Tele-Recording Equipment and Parts and Accessories’; Section XVII ‘Ground Means of Transportation, Aircraft, Floating Craft and Transport-Related Devices and Equipment’ have not been published.<br> <br> Only the data for January-April 2021 are available in the FEACN sections.<br> <br> Belstat says official information dissemination policy stipulates that statistics authorities of any state independently determine what data to publish.<br> <br> As previously reported, On June 24, 2021, the EU Council imposed sanctions against the largest sectors of the Belarusian economy. The ban applies to potash with a K2O content of below 40% and over 62% (technical potash used in metallurgy, chemical, petrochemical and other industries). Potassium with 60% K2O content, which is the most popular potash fertilizer in the world is not on the list of banned products, while Belarus’ multiple-nutrient fertilizers with potassium chloride (produced by Belaruskali and the Gomel Chemical Plant) are on the list.
