Tight price regulation in Belarus to minimize imports’ impact on consumer demand – Trade Ministry
<p> MINSK, Feb 24 - PrimePress. Strict price regulation measures to be taken under government resolution No.100 ‘On Temporary Measures to Stabilize Prices of Socially Important Goods of Prime Necessity’ of February 23, 2021 will minimize the impact of imports on consumer demand, the Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade (MART) of Belarus said in an official comment posted on its website on February 24, 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> As previously reported, Belarus prohibited to raise prices of socially important essential goods until February 28, 2021, and restricted their growth to no more than 0.2% per month from March 1, 2021. The list includes 62 kinds of foods and consumer goods and 50 kinds of medicines produced in Belarus. </p> <p> </p> <p> The objective is to minimize the impact on consumer demand of increased costs incurred by entities engaged in imports in terms of the cost of production, raise in prices of critical imported goods, deteriorating external business environment (quarantine, export restrictions, etc.), MART says. </p> <p> </p> <p> Domestically produced medicines were added to the list of socially important goods along with essential foods mainly of Belarusian manufacture.
