MINSK, May 26 - PrimePress. The board of directors of the Swedish export credit agency EKN on May 25, 2021 decided to drop two export credit insurance projects in Belarus worth SEK 2 billion (about $240 million) for the purchase of gas turbines (manufactured by Sweden’s Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery) by Belarusian RUE Minskenergo and RUE Brestenergo, the company’s press service said.
EKN reportedly decided to provide insurance coverage for the export of two gas turbines to Belarusian enterprises Minskenergo and Brestenergo on August 26, 2020, and at the time the company saw no obstacles to the deal.
The company's decision to refuse to participate in these projects took into account the development of internal political events in Belarus and after repeated analysis of information on these two projects. “EKN's conclusion is that there are no conditions for export credit guarantees in these deals," the report says.
