MINSK, Jun 16 - PrimePress. Siemens Energy AB (Sweden) has supplied the first 50MW gas turbine SGT-800 for the peak reserve power source at Minsk thermal power plant (TPP) No.5, Minskenergo said in a statement.
The peak reserve power facility at Minsk thermal power plant (TPP) No.5 provides for installing six Siemens SGT-800 gas turbine units manufactured by Swedish Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery.
The construction of the peak-reserve power plant at TPP#5 in Minsk is envisaged by the program for the integration of the Belarusian NPP (Astravyets District, Grodno Oblast) into Belarus’ grid.
As previously reported, the comprehensive plan for development of the Belarusian electric power sector for the period to 2025 provides for the construction of peak-reserve power sources with gas turbines or gas piston units with a total capacity of 800 MW at four sites: Lukoml state district power plant – 150 MW; Novopolotsk thermal electric power station – 100 MW; Beryoza state district power plant – 250 MW; Minsk electric power station No.5 – 300 MW. The peak-reserve power sources are to be involved in case of emergency at the Belarusian NPP. The projects are financed from the Energy Ministry’s investment fund, energy supplying enterprises and from credits provided by Belarusian banks. The Belarusian Energy Ministry estimates the integration of the NPP into the country’s energy system at about $700 million.
The government of Belarus by its Resolution No.582 of October 6, 2020 extended the terms of construction of peak-reserve power sources to cope with emergency situations at the Belarusian NPP for one year until 2022.
As previously reported, the board of directors of the Swedish export credit agency EKN on 25 May 2021 decided to drop two export credit insurance projects in Belarus worth SEK 2 billion (about $240 million) for the purchase of gas turbines (manufactured by Sweden’s Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery) by Belarusian RUE Minskenergo and RUE Brestenergo.
EKN reportedly decided to provide insurance coverage for the export of two gas turbines to Belarusian enterprises Minskenergo and Brestenergo on August 26, 2020, and at the time the company saw no obstacles to the deal.
The company's decision to refuse to participate in these projects took into account the development of internal political events in Belarus and after repeated analysis of information on these two projects. End
