Share of savings in FX in time deposits in Belarus down 0.7 p.p. to 73.4% in 3Q20

The share of savings in foreign exchange in the total volume of term bank deposits in Belarus decreased by 0.7 percentage points to 73.4% in the third quarter of 2020, reads the Know Your Client analytical review posted on the website of the National Bank of Belarus (NBB). </p> <p> </p> <p> Resident individuals deposited Br17.24 billion ($7.7 billion at the rate of the National Bank of Belarus) as of October 1, 2020, 97.9% of total time deposits. Savings in foreign currencies accounted for 73.4%, down 0.7 p.p. in the third quarter of 2020. </p> <p> </p> <p> As of October 1, time deposits in foreign exchange (in the ruble equivalent) decreased by 5.5% from July 1, 2020 to Br12.94 billion ($5.036 billion). Time foreign exchange deposits in dollar terms decreased by 14.1% to $4.9bn in 3Q20. </p> <p> </p> <p> Revocable deposits in Belarusian rubles increased by 21.4% to Br0.5 billion ($194.6 million) in the third quarter. Revocable deposits in foreign exchange were down 14.2% to Br5.06 billion ($1.97 billion). Revocable deposits in foreign exchange in dollar terms decreased by 22% in the third quarter to $1.92 billion as of October 1, 2020. </p> <p> </p> <p> The largest amount of household savings in time deposits was placed with ASB Belarusbank: 49.1% as of October 1, 2020. Belagroprombank OJSC reported 17.9%; BelVEB Bank OJSC – 5.2%; Belinvestbank OJSC – 3.9%; BPS-Sberbank OJSC – 3.6%; Priorbank OJSC – 3.1%.
