National Bank to hold monthly credit auctions starting Jan 2021

Starting January 2021, the National Bank of Belarus will hold credit auctions on a monthly basis, reads an official letter (#36-20/93 of 27 November 2020) the regulator sent to Belarus’ commercial banks. </p> <p> </p> <p> The regulator will conduct monthly credit auctions in order to support the liquidity of the banking system. </p> <p> </p> <p> Auctions will be held at a declared interest rate, which is equal to the rate for permanently available liquidity support operations in the form of an overnight credit plus 1 p.p. The term of the loan is six months, the accepted collateral is a pledge of securities included in the Lombard list of securities, as well as security deposits in foreign currency in accordance with Annexes 1 and 2 to the Decree of the Board of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus No. 153 "On Securing Credits of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus" dated October 18, 2006. </p> <p> </p> <p> The volume of loans granted as a result of auctions will be determined by the Committee on Financial Market Operations on the basis of the volume of banks' repayment of medium-term loans granted in 2020 and the state of liquidity of the banking system. The maximum amount of debt on these operations is set at Br2 billion ($779.1 million at the exchange rate of the National Bank of Belarus). End </p>
