National Bank’s net foreign assets up 0.8% in Jan-May 2021 to $7.336bn

Net foreign assets of the National Bank of Belarus (NBB) amounted to U.S. $7.336 billion as of June 1, 2021, up 0.8% year to date, the National Bank of Belarus said in a statistical report. </p> <p> </p> <p> The National Bank’s net foreign assets increased following a decrease in gross foreign assets by 0.5% in Jan-May 2021 to $8.057 billion and a 12% decrease in foreign liabilities to $720.9 million as of June 1, 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> Monetary gold accounted for $3.492bn of the National Bank’s gross foreign assets as of June 1, 2021 (up 0.6% year to date), deposits – $2.81bn (down 1.9%), credits – $990,900bn (up 2.9%), securities (except shares) – $754.23m (down 4.3%), foreign exchange – $9.59m (down 0.1%), other assets – $0, on a par with the level of Jan 1, 2021. </p> <p> </p> <p> Credits accounted for $163.65m of the National Bank’s external liabilities as of June 1, 2021 (down 35% year to date), securities (except shares) – none as in the beginning of the year, deposits – $23.45m (down 34.9%), other liabilities – $533.8m (up 0.5%). </p> <p> </p> <p> In 2020, net foreign assets of the Belarusian government and the National Bank of Belarus decreased by 17.4% to U.S. $7.28 billion as of January 1, 2021.
